Ways to Help

Volunteer

We have monthly volunteer opportunities where a group of 5 or more people can come in and assist in a variety of tasks such as folding linens, organizing and re-arranging furniture, packing dishware, and assisting with furniture drop-off's.

Monetary Donations

Financial contributions to NCJW for Furnishing Peaceful Homes - Shalom Bayit are completely tax deductible, and all donations will directly benefit the program.

Furniture Donations

Donations of gently-used, or new furniture and household items are the heart of the Furnishing Peaceful Homes - Shalom Bayit project. We appreciate donations that are dropped off by appointment only. Donations can also be picked up twice a month.

Volunteer Opportunities

Furnishing Peaceful Homes - Shalom Bayit is a non-profit organization that relies heavily on volunteer involvement to continue providing survivors of Domestic Violence the furniture and essentials needed to start anew. If you are interested in assisting with any of the following, please email Mia at shalombayit@ncjwseattle.org with Volunteering in the subject line. Every volunteer matters, and it is only with volunteer assistance are we able to provide the services we do to the local community.

Furnishing Peaceful Homes - Shalom Bayit Committee/Board

If you would like to take a more active role in Furnishing Peaceful Homes - Shalom Bayit, we invite you to join our committee. We meet quarterly, and committee members have an active role in shaping the organization and our efforts in the DV community. The committee discusses and organizes things such as program expansion efforts, community outreach, advocate assistance and program improvements.

Volunteer Warehouse Days

Come lend a hand! Our volunteer warehouse days are generally the 3rd Sunday of every month where volunteers assist in re-arranging the warehouse to accommodate incoming furniture, as well as organizing the items prior to client appointment weeks, ensuring the warehouse is neat and tidy when clients come in to 'shop.' These days are crucial to our organization, and we are always in need of people willing to lend a helping hand and a few hours.

  • Volunteers are needed on the following days in the 2010 calendar, groups and youth 14 and above are welcome! (all times are 1-4pm unless otherwise noted): August 15, September 24 - United Way Day of Caring (10am - 1pm), October 24, November 21, and December 12

*Please be sure to let the Program Director know if you are interested or have a group interested in participating in our Warehouse Days, as days and volunteer slots do occasionally fill up*
  • If you are interested in being the 'volunteer lead' for any of those days, please contact the Furnishing Peaceful Homes - Shalom Bayit Program Director. VL's are in charge of delegating tasks to the group (task list given prior), signing in volunteers, and making sure the event runs smoothly. Very easy role, but very important!

Pickup Days

If you would like to represent NCJW on furniture pickup days, when we go out into the community and collect donations, please contact me! You would follow the pickup truck on a designated route and act as the furniture bank representative.
